FAQs

Common questions about studying in Australia.

Quick answers to the questions our counsellors hear most.

What is the GTE requirement for Australia? +

GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) is a criterion the Australian government uses to assess whether you genuinely intend to study and return home after your course. You need to provide a written statement covering your circumstances in India, your study plans, and why you chose Australia. Our counsellors draft and review this for every applicant.

How long is the Post-Study Work Visa (subclass 485)? +

Bachelor's degree = 2 years. Bachelor's honours / Graduate diploma / Master's coursework = 3 years. Master's by research = 3 years. PhD = 4 years. From 2024, an additional 2-year extension is available for graduates who studied in regional Australia — making the maximum 6 years.

Can I work while studying in Australia? +

Yes — student visa holders can currently work 48 hours per fortnight during term time and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks. This generous work allowance helps students manage living costs significantly, especially in sectors like hospitality, retail and healthcare.

Can my family join me in Australia? +

Yes — your spouse and dependants can be included in your Australian student visa application. Spouses of student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight (full-time if the main applicant is studying a Masters or PhD). Children can attend school in Australia on the same visa.

What IELTS / PTE score do I need? +

Most Australian universities require IELTS 6.0–6.5 (no band below 6.0) for undergraduate, and IELTS 6.5 for postgraduate programmes. PTE Academic 50–58 is also widely accepted. Some universities offer English bridging courses if you fall slightly below the threshold.

How does the path to Australian PR work? +

After graduation: Post-Study Work visa (485) → gain Australian work experience in a skilled occupation → receive a state nomination (subclass 190) or points-tested invitation (subclass 189) → apply for permanent residency. An Australian degree adds 5–10 extra points to your skilled migration score, making PR significantly more achievable.
