Yes — medical degrees from recognised Hungarian universities are accepted by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India. Graduates must pass the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) or NEXT exam to practise medicine in India. Universities such as Semmelweis, Debrecen, Pécs and Szeged are popular for this reason.
Yes — international students in Hungary can work up to 24 hours per week during term time and full-time during semester breaks. A separate work permit is not required for the first 90 days; after that you need a combined work and residence permit, which our team helps you obtain.
No — most international students enrol in English-taught programmes and do not need to know Hungarian. However, learning basic Hungarian is helpful for daily life. Universities offer free or subsidised Hungarian language courses to international students to help with integration.
IELTS is not required by the Hungarian embassy for the student visa. However, individual universities require proof of English proficiency for English-taught programmes — IELTS 5.5–6.5 or equivalent is typically accepted. Some universities conduct their own English interviews as an alternative.
After graduation, you can apply for a job-seeker residence permit to remain in Hungary for up to 9 months while seeking employment. A Hungarian EU-recognised degree also qualifies you to work across all EU member states. Many graduates move to Germany, Austria or the Netherlands for higher salaries after gaining initial experience in Hungary.
